CROCHET
Crochet is the art of textile formation using a hook to
form stitches. In crochet, there is generally only one
active point in the work at any given time, that is,
where the current stitch is being worked. By contrast,
in knitting, all stitches are “active” until they are
bound off.
KNITTING
Knitting is a method of fabric formation which, in hand
crafts, uses a pair of needles to form a row of multiple
loops which are then worked back and forth. The loops
are held on the needles as they are worked one by one.
If a loop is dropped the stitch will unravel.
LACEMAKING
Bobbin lace is a method of lacemaking which uses bobbins
to weave threads together in a given pattern. Pins are
used to hold the stitches as they are formed. The number
of bobbins required depends on the pattern being worked.
SPINNING
Spinning is the process of adding twist to fiber in
order to form yarn. The twist is what holds the fibers
together to form a continuous length of yarn. The fiber
can be of natural origin (e.g., wool) or synthetic
(man-made). Yarn is used to form fabrics for a multitude
of purposes, including clothing. |
